Our Story

The idea behind the Leadership Experience (LX, formerly M1) stemmed out of many 2008 conversations among friends. The idea that faith and work - what many at the time considered the separate secular and spiritual - could convene, was an issue that Brad Edson, Brett Edson, Brad Routh, and Barry Asmus conversed at length about. What resulted, became an initiative of Marketplace One, with Brad and Brett Edson, the partners, funding and influencing others through a generous week-long conference where core ideas central to this issue were discussed among speakers such as Dr. Timothy Keller, Dr. Wayne Grudem, and Jonathan Coors. Living out a Christian calling within the marketplace, and helping others do so as well, was paramount.

The group’s vision of Christian leaders that wrestled with these issues and ideas slowly evolved into professional connections that formed a network. Brian MacKay was a key figure that helped to guide conversations; knowing others on a more personal basis. The network soon began to evolve into a community who cared for each other beyond work, in light of their lived out faith. Directed by the vision and efforts of Lukas Naugle, LX became a community of people who were known by each other, and impacted marketplace, nonprofits, and entrepreneurial leaders in both direct and indirect ways when life became intentional with each other. Additionally, when Access Ventures, a Louisville, KY based private operating foundation, became involved in 2015 the vision of LX started to solidify. The founding board, consisting of Brian MacKay, Bryce Butler, Michael Coors, and Kyle Brown solidified the aim of LX when it incorporated the organization as a nonprofit in 2019.

What lies at the heart of this community are its people and the ability for them to navigate life with each other through all its seasons. Different than organizations who focus on faith and work, or networking groups with specific outcome gain, the LX fosters relationships through programming built on intentionality and generosity as guided by our Statement of Faith found in the Nicene Creed. The Nicene Creed is a historic confession that unites Christians by affirming the core truths of our shared faith.

Depending on stage in life, bandwidth, and even depth of outside relationships, what results may be different for each of our alumni. However, our shared values spill over into alumni’s relationships with each other, namely personal lives with spouses and family, and professional lives with peers and colleagues. The LX aims for its community to live out a Kingdom oriented life … together.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7
